Professional Statement
Dr. Sandberg is the Chief Medical Quality Officer for Dayton Children’s, a pediatric gastroenterologist, and an associate professor in pediatrics. As the Chief Medical Quality Officer, Dr. Sandberg works with quality and safety leaders to maintain standards and improve the quality of care children receive throughout the organization. He serves on multiple teams and committees across the hospital, mentors junior faculty and spreads learnings to improve care. He serves on a committee for the National Institute of Health, chairing it from 2022-2023. As a pediatric gastroenterologist, he cares for children who have issues with the esophagus, stomach, intestines and liver. He has a particular interest in caring for those with Inflammatory Bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) and serves as the medical director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Dayton Children's Hospital. He serves as the physician lead for ImproveCareNow, an international health learning collaborative, that has increased remission rates at Dayton Children’s Hospital by more than 20% since 2015. Dr. Sandberg trained at The University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his general pediatrics residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He completed fellowships in Gastroenterology and Pediatric Health Services Research, as well as a Masters in Health and Healthcare Research from the University of Michigan. Dr. Adam Mezoff recruited Dr. Sandberg to join Dayton Children’s Hospital in 2014.
