Professional Statement

Daniel Urschel, MD is a pediatric allergist and immunologist at Dayton Children's Hospital. Dr. Urschel is an Ohio native. He graduated college from Kent State University. He then completed his medical school education at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. He spent his pediatric residency at Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine. After residency, Dr. Urschel spent nearly a decade in the Greater Dayton area as a pediatrician where he developed an interest in treating patients with allergies. In 2019, Dr. Urschel left his pediatric practice to complete an allergy and immunology fellowship at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, Florida. When asked why he chose to specialize in allergy and immunology he responded, "This field is evolving rapidly, presenting new exciting treatment options." Upon completion of he fellowship, Dr. Urschel joined the allergy and immunology practice at Dayton Children's Hospital. He chose to return to Dayton Children's because of the relationships he has built over the years from being a pediatrician in the community. He believes that Dayton Children's is special, it is large enough to provide excellent care and small enough to focus on individual patients. Dr. Urschel's favorite thing about working with kids is their joyful spirit and ability to bounce back and recover from illness. Outside of work, Dr. Urschel enjoys sports, outdoors and spending time with his wife and children.

I feel like they could’ve done more testing. They only tested for a certain thing. I feel like if they would’ve did more testing for different things that we probably would’ve figured out what she could’ve been allergic to.

Well my son is a little shy and usually doesn’t open up to people he’s not familiar with unless they have made him feel really comfortable and established some sort of trust. In a lot of situations I do the talking for him but not this time. This was only our second visit with the doctor and nurse and whatever they did was great because I just sat back and listened while my son answered all the questions. Thanks for providing such a professional and welcoming experience. We’ll see you next time.

We had such a great experience. Due to past experiences with other doctors, we were extremely nervous and not very hopeful. All doctors have given up on our son. Dr. Urschel was very hopeful to help our son and made it a point that even if we hit a road block he would be there to help. He listened to every concern and explained things so we would be able to understand. We went in without hope and left with a glimpse of it.

Everything went very smooth and the doctor listened to our opinion before just starting with the needles and pricks.

We had this appointment with a specific suspected allergy in mind. The provider did do an allergy test on that allergy, but it came back negative. There were no next steps given, except to keep an eye on things at home and if we notice an issue to call back. We waited over a month for this appointment and feel like we really have no further answers. It would have been nice to have further testing done to see what the actual problem is that is causing my son issues.
