Dr Shank and Dr Mowery are always very helpful and courteous. They both listen to our concerns and respect our choices.

The provider was very kind and did take his time to listen. However, from everything that I have heard from other doctors, he had a completely different opinion. Also, I've heard from physical therapists that the flat feet condition does put stress in our joints, and that's something that's occurred in our family. So just looking at my daughter's feet, 100% is flat feet. Her ankles are turning inward. Um, determining that we should do absolutely nothing for her. Um, I don't agree with, and I will be seeking a second opinion.

We waited for an extremely long time after being roomed for the provider. (Over 30min) The provider was short with my son and myself. The visit felt rushed and unimportant. We were instructed that X-rays would need repeated before the f/u visit but no instructions given. Are we supposed to do go prior to his visit? Are they done during the visit? At checkout the individual was extremely rude and condescending. The only positives from the staff at this visit are the lady who checked us in at reception and the nurse who roomed my son. Both were polite, professional, pleasant and engaged with my son as the patient and myself. I would’ve loved for my son to see the same provider he had seen prior for a sports injury instead of new provider.

I'm not sure if we caught Dr. Shanks on a bad day. He is a great doctor. He has seen my son in the past. It feels like he may have had a bad day on the day we were there. His attitude was halfway there, but we know how great of a doctor he was, so I let it slide. But I would recommend him just because of his knowledge.

I was very disappointed with our visit, we were there for a follow up after being referred from a sports med provider with a continued concern of my 9 y/o. I felt we were brushed off and wrote off as there wasn’t a clear cut answer on the mri as to what’s going on but was given no direction other than therapy and push through. She’s been doing that for 3-months and still having pain and swelling, obviously a little more direction would’ve been great. Maybe even watching her walk or paying attention to her facial expressions upon examination would’ve been nice. But I guess for now we will continue PT and pray the swelling and pain goes down so she can get back to competing. Just frustrated with the brush off.

He has always been utmost respectful and has done an amazing job with my son. My son absolutely adores him. And I cannot thank him enough for all the stuff that he has done for my son. And I do truly appreciate him and his staff.

Doctor Shank is wonderful and listens to our concerns and gives us the best course of action for our little girl.

Nice bedside manner, but didn’t feel fully present in the room with us or with his student observer. It was slightly awkward because the student who was observing was not introduced by our provider, the student introduced himself. And the student was very personable. The questions we asked were answered. Our child did receive good care. We were just a little surprised by the provider’s lack of engagement with our child and the room in general.

All of the threes at the beginning should have been fours. I didn't listen long enough. They are supposed to be the best. I had a good experience at this place.

Dr. Shank is kind, compassionate, and very skilled. I think he is one of the best doctors I have ever met. I will be sad when I age out of DCH and have to see another orthopedic doctor for my care.

Dr. Shank is one of the most through doctor's we have ever had, and he gives an honest opinion and listens to everything we have to say. We appreciate him greatly.

Dr. Shank and his team were very caring and supportive to my son’s situation. They helped us feel comfortable with having him under their care and supervision. I would most definitely recommend Children’s of Dayton Orthopedics Specialist for anyone who needs their level of care.

My child felt like the injury was not treated seriously. At the end, the doctor said there was a knee sprain without any elaboration. My kid wanted to know which ligament was injured. The doctor kinda shrugged and said, it’ll get better soon. Don’t do your sport until then. It was so ambiguous. The “uh, I don’t know” diagnosis was paired with the awkward personal interaction during the appointment. Even before the physical exam began, during the talking phase, we felt a lack of connection, which made it seem like the doctor had no personality. It was the weirdest medical visit my children have had with the orthopedic clinic. We have seen some great docs at Dayton Children’s. Broken bones needing casts, joint damage, eventually requiring surgery, visits where you just find out that everything is ok, concussion diagnosis with regular 10day follow up until IMPACT testing is passed. This particular visit was just odd. My child would prefer not to return for a follow up with Dr Shank. I’m inclined to agree. If it’s just going to get better and the doc doesn’t know, then why return?
