About Catherine Elizabeth McDaniel

Professional Statement

Kettering native and Chaminade-Julienne High School alum, Catherine McDaniel, OD, MS, is excited to be able to serve her hometown and do what she loves! For over ten years, Dr. McDaniel served as a professor at The Ohio State University teaching colleagues and providing patient care, and now she is thrilled to be back serving the children and families of the Greater Dayton region. As a pediatric optometrist, Dr. McDaniel performs comprehensive vision care, amblyopia and strabismus treatment, post-concussion vision evaluation and care, myopia control/management treatment and evaluations for common binocular vision conditions in kids. Dr. McDaniel completed her residency in pediatric optometry and binocular vision at the University of Houston College of Optometry. She earned her Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University where she also earned a Master of Science in vision science. She chose to specialize in pediatric optometry because helping kids reach their visual potential can have a lasting impact on their entire life. In education, most of what we learn is presented visually. No child's vision should hinder their ability to succeed. Outside of work, Dr. McDaniel loves spending time with her two amazing kids, her energetic husband and her lap dog who loves to snuggle.

Everyone was wonderful. The nurse was very patient with my son and helped him through the appointment. Made him feel comfortable and showed him on his stuffed animal “George” before she did it on him. We cannot said enough about how much we love Dayton Children’s and appreciate everything they do for our son and family

I love that the provider gave me information and taught me something that I never even thought of in a way that makes perfect sense. She really was great! She took the time to explain things for my understanding and answer all questions I had. Yesterday's appointment was one of my favorite appointments I have had with children's as a whole, and I have four kids so we can be there a lot. I even shared something she explained to me and the people I shared it with got it right away too even though they had never thought of it like that either, just like me. She was also very kind and my child just loved her, he didn't cry or whine at all it was just all smiles. She really made the whole appointment simple and easy, it felt like it went pretty quick even though we were there a while. I will always recommend her, as a matter of fact I have a niece that will now be seeing her beginning in February.

Dr.McDaniel and her assistant(?) were wonderful and I have been so many other places and never received the attention and information that I did here. My son had a lot of positive feelings after, and we are very hopeful for positive outcomes with his treatment plan!
